Youth Leaders at
World Economic Forum Dead Sea, Jordan May 20-21, 2005 Under The Patronage
of His Majesty King Abdullah II
Mr. Bawa Jain, Chairman
of the World Youth Peace Summit, delivered the following address to the Arab
Youth Leaders who attended the World Economic Forum in Jordan recently.
The Youth Leadership dialogue was jointly organized by the World Youth
Peace Summit and the King Abdullah II Fund for Development, the local Summit
planning partner.
Dear All,
I hope that you had time
now to digest the extraordinary experience that you were privileged to be a
part of. It’s events like this that can often transform one’s entire life.
You are an extraordinary group. I made a commitment to follow up and so,
here I am. As you are aware, The King Abdullah Fund is working closely with
us and it is the body designated by The Royal Hashemite Court to coordinate
the hosting of the World Youth Peace Summit. It is my intention to keep all
of you involved. As I indicated, we are planning to hold an Arab Youth
Leaders Summit in September 11-13, 2005 in Amman, Jordan which leads into
the World Youth Peace Summit at The Dead Sea, September 11-15, 2006.Here is
what each of you can do:
Visit our website at
www.wyps.org and keep yourselves updated
Identify Youth Leaders who can
be part of the delegations, first for the Arab Summit and then the World
Summit.
Begin the formation of a Council
of Youth Leaders in each of your countries. Remember, you have to be
extremely selective. To be considered are only those Youth Leaders with a
track record and a commitment towards social responsibility in a position of
influence willing to commit for the long-term implementation of WYPS action
plans.
Those individuals interested to
only attend a conference and enjoy it as a one time shot, please know this
is not the forum for you.
Help determine what the critical
issues are in your region and country. What are the resources you can use to
assist you in providing leadership? What are those areas where you require
assistance? With The King Abdullah Fund, we hope to create an Arab Council
of Youth Leaders which will work closely with the World Council of Youth
Leaders. We are committed to forming it at the World Youth Peace Summit.
Fresh from your experience, I am sure you can leverage it at any level and
gain support from your Governments, Business leaders and prominent civic
leaders. We have several Letters of Support from Heads of States, including
His Majesty King Abdullah II. Please encourage Heads of State of each of
your countries to also support the WYPS. Please look for prominent Young
Leaders who are willing to serve and we can designate them as “Youth
Ambassadors”.
Now, I want to ask each
of you, in less than a page, to write about your experience in Jordan and
what you have learned and how it has impacted your life. I intend to post
these letters on our website so others may benefit. I have no doubt that
each of you is gifted and will succeed. I look forward to hearing from each
one of you. Please know, when possible, I am willing
to travel to each of your countries. This will only happen, of
course, when you have done the basic spade work. We can signate each one of
you as a Coordinator for the WYPS, but I need your commitment. Go and shine!
With my best wishes,
Bawa Jain
Chairman, WYPS
